Are you considering buying a natural Christmas tree for the holidays? Here are some tips from natural Christmas tree growers in the Ardennes region of Belgium to ensure your tree doesn't lose its needles on Christmas Eve.
1. Preserve the trunk of the tree
Choose a Nordmann fir grown in a pot if possible.
This is a great way to ensure your natural tree lasts a long time.
Place the pot in a saucer and water frequently to keep the needles in place.
You can also plant your rootless tree in a pot filled with sand, which you will moisten regularly.
This is a great way to prevent the trunk from drying out while improving the stability of the natural Belgian Christmas tree.
2. Avoid heat
To preserve its longevity, place your natural Belgian fir tree as far as possible from a heat source such as a radiator or fireplace.
Also avoid placing it in front of a window in the sun.
In short, the coolest place in the room will be ideal.
Lower the temperature at night, more than usual, 16° would be ideal for your plants.
3. Choose the right location
Natural fir trees don't like to be jostled; it destabilizes them every time you "shake" them, and they lose their needles.
Avoid areas where there are aisles such as living rooms or entrances, as well as drafts.
The ideal is a corner of a room where there is not much traffic.
4. Hydrate your natural tree as much as possible
Before the decorations have been installed, spray water on your Belgian tree.
If your tree is in a pot, water it;
if it is planted in a log, first place it on a tray and wet the log, it will transmit its moisture to the trunk;
If your tree is glued to a stand, place a bowl of water near the base of the plant to maintain humidity.
5. Ditch artificial snow
It looks nice on the Christmas tree, but it accentuates the wilting of the needles, which should be avoided whether in disposable or spray form.
If you want this whitewashed effect, we recommend white flocked trees which are safe and perfectly suited to your living room.
