The price of a real Christmas tree depends on four things. Knowing them lets you compare offers fairly, not just on the price tag.
Spruce is the most affordable tree: it grows faster, so it costs less to produce. Its resinous scent is strong, but it drops its needles faster in a heated home. The Nordmann fir needs more years of growing; it costs more, but its soft needles stay on for weeks. It is the safest choice if you put your tree up in early December.
A taller tree means one or more extra years of growing and care on the plantation. That is why the price goes up in 25 cm steps. For most living rooms, a 1.50 to 2 m tree is enough: measure your ceiling height and subtract about 50 cm for the stand and the tree topper.
A potted tree comes with its roots and root ball. It costs more at the same height, but it can stay outdoors after the holidays and be replanted if you have a garden. A cut tree remains the best value for a beautiful living-room tree.
